The Web Site

Welcome to the new website for the Valentine Neighborhood Association.

The geek speak

The site was developed using WordPress a very popular open source “Content Management System (CMS).” The benefits of using WordPress include the ability to have multiple board members update the content, and the large community of developers who create “plug-ins” which provide extra functionality.

We have also created an online store using Square. This will give us the ability to pay dues online, accept credit cards at events, and to sell Valentine shirts and mugs online.

Header photos

The current photos used in the headers were taken from various available photos that are not ideal for this. So we would love neighbors to send us quality photographs that are designed for use in the header. This means they must be of Valentine people, places or events. They need to be 1600 pixels wide and 230 pixels high. They should also account for the logo shield blocking part of the left half, meaning the significant part of the photo needs to be on the right. If you have any, please attach them to this email.

Sections of the site

The sections of the site include:

  • Home: This will be a blog of short entries describing the latest news and events going on in Valentine.
  • VNA: The pages in this section will include information pertaining to the Valentine Neighborhood Association.
  • Neighborhood: This section contains pages relating to Valentine Neighborhood itself.
  • Calendar: We have established a Google Calendar for VNA events. The web site is automatically updated when the calendar is updated.
  • Store: This is our venue for online commerce including dues, events and VNA logo items.

Also note the sidebars that have links to news in the Midtown KC Post and links to various city services.

We want to continually improve and add content to the site. Please let us know about any corrections, or things you would like to see on the site. Here is how you can contact us.
